ArtsintheOlives Festival

On Sunday May 14th the Arts in the Olives Festival 2017, will feature the theme of “Celebration – a Decade of Creativity”  and will include workshops on Blacksmithing, Watercolour Painting, Shibori, Flute Making and Weaving to name a few.

This is a day to enjoy creativity, learn skills and take home your very own masterpiece, or simply to wander amongst the olive trees, or along the peaceful riverbank enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes.

Learn to sculpt a 3 dimensional masterpiece in stone and create a beautiful piece to take pride of place in your home or garden.

Music lovers will enjoy learning Bamboo Flute Making with Windelf, who will teach  his students how to make and play unique Shakuhachi or Native American bamboo flutes.

Winner of the 2012 Caldera Art Award – Therese Flynn Clark – will lead students in learning the art of creating shapes and animal forms in using plant fibres to create a random weave flying critter.

The blacksmiths will again beat beautiful shapes from hot iron over two days of workshops with Gilbert Louttit as the experienced tutor.

We are delighted to be able to offer a Horn and Pewter workshop again this year.  Ross Plant will be offering tuition  using the machinery and tools he acquired from the master, John Trier.

There will also be an opportunity to learn the mysteries of lino printing, to learn textile dyeing in the Shibori method, and to create shape and form with the fascinating art of needle felting, .

Following the Arts in the Olives tradition, 2017 will again see free tuition for all children’s workshops with some requiring a small charge for materials.

There will be an excellent music programme for 2017 with talented artists, and artisan stalls will again offer beautiful hand made goods  and organic and home grown produce.

Food offerings promise to be delicious, tantalising and varied.

Sunday workshops begin at 9:00 am. Registration for Workshops opens at 8:00am.  To avoid disappointment, pre booking is recommended as many workshops fill early.
Morning Classes: 9:00am-11:30am
Afternoon Classes: 1:00pm-3:30pm
Fullday Classes: 9:00am-3:30pm

Music, stalls, food and wine tasting and other festival activities will occur throughout the day.
Festival entry is $10 ,school children $5, children under five free

As with all bush settings in Australia the venue may include rough uneven ground, or presence of snakes, spiders and other native fauna who may live alongside the free flowing headwaters of the Albert River.

Although most of the festival space is shady – sun safety is necessary.

Parents are responsible for the safety of their children at all times while at the festival.

First Aid is available at the registration tent
